Dictionary of the Ancient Greek World – Review

I have recently gone through the Dictionary of the Ancient Greek World by David Sacks. This is an extremely helpful resource for anyone interested in the world of ancient Greece.

Ancient Greek World

The entries are not overly long or technical but they do reflect solid scholarship. The dictionary is published by Oxford University Press and so it comes from a respected source.

I found that the dictionary gives just the right amount of information and is perfect for the layperson who may not be a classics scholar. It covers both myth and history.

This is particularly helpful in responding to the Jesus Myth Theory. Instead of just accepting the claim that Adonis was resurrected or that Dionysus was virgin born, you can look up the god/hero and find out the truth.
