This reference volume is not written by Christians (that I know of) and is not written to defend the Bible. In fact the Bible is barely mentioned.
This is an examination of how people wrote about history (historiography) in ancient Greece and Rome from many different angles. As someone interested in ancient history, I found it absolutely fascinating.
While definitely not written for this purpose, it is also devastating for the Jesus MythTheory. The extreme standard that Mythicists hold the Bible, especially the New Testament, is just not the way historians treat texts.
Just because there are questions or lack of precision in certain details or differences between authors, doesn’t mean that historians judge the text as being completely unhistorical.
If you are interested in ancient history, not just what happened but how people wrote about it, I recommend A Companion to Greek and Roman Historiography. It is a thick volume but well worth it.
