What if something is described only once in the Bible and there is no outside support for it? Does that mean we should assume that the described event is not historical?
Jesus Mythicists are quick to discount events that are even mentioned multiple times in the New Testament. If it is not corrobarated by an outside source, it should be rejected.
The problem with that assumption is that is not how ancient history is done. When we look at how historians look at what happened in the past, very often they have only one account of it. An event is not rejected if it only described by one author.
Unless there is a reason to question the historicity of an event, even one mention is taken seriously. Only Jesus Mythicists assume that an event is unhistorical unless it is supported by overwhelming evidence.
So if an event is described only once and that description is in the Bible, that is not reason enough to reject it.
