There are lots of people who hold to the Jesus Myth Theory, including the claim that the Historical Jesus never existed. There are many reason people embrace this view but I want to share one bad one.
An observation that there is not enough historical evidence to support that Jesus existed.
It is not uncommon for Jesus Mythicists to claim that there is “no evidence for the existence of Jesus.” The truth is that there is evidence, it is just evidence that they reject.
They claim they would need writings from Jesus, writings from witnesses during his life, and writings by his adversaries.
I wish we had all of that as well but that is not the standard that is required by historians (I don’t mean theologians) for determining that an individual existed.
The Gospels, Paul, and Josephus are more than enough evidence for Jesus’ existence and more (and of better quality) than we have for many figures we never doubt existed.
Unless one began with the presupposition that Jesus never existed, one would never question just based on the historical evidence.
