What My High School English Teacher Taught Me About the Jesus Myth

I don’t remember much from grade nine in high school but I do remember one particular English class. We were getting ready for our regular lecture when it became apparent that the teacher had something else in mind.

Instead of whatever lesson we would normally do, our teacher challenged us to prove to him that Earth was really round. This didn’t mean that he was a flat-earther. He had something deeper in mind.

We spent the rest of the class offering evidence for a round Earth and he spent the same time rebitting everything we said. No matter how logical our arguments were, he had a way of showing that the evidence could have been falsified.

Our English teacher was teaching us a lesson that has stuck with me. If people don’t want to believe something, they will always find a way to reject evidence.

This is especially relevant to talking to people about the Jesus Myth Theory. Even though by far the majority of scholars accept the existence of Jesus, Mythicists can easily reject every piece of evidence.

They will say there is “no” evidence for Jesus, when what they mean is that they reject the evidence that exists.

This is why I do not debate Mythicists. No matter what I say, they will have a reason to suggest that the evidence has been falsified.

What I do on this website and elsewhere is not to convince Mythicists but to provide resources for those genuinely seeking the truth.
