Believe it or not, I am sympathetic with the skeptic. I have a skeptical nature myself. But when it comes to skepticism and the Bible, it is sometimes taken to the extreme. The standards are set in such a way that the Bible cannot win.
Let me give you an example. If something is described in the Bible and there is nothing like it in surrounding cultures, it cannot be historical. It must be fictional.
If something is described in the Bible and there is something similar in surrounding cultures, it cannot be historical. It must be a forgery. The Bible writers must have simply copied what they saw elsewhere.
So the Bible is non-historical if there is something like it or if there is nothing like it. What this tells us is that certain forms of skepticism are used, not to discover the truth, but to demonstrate something as false no matter what the evidence is.
Scepticism is not necessarily a bad thing but it can be abused when it is used to reject whatever you don’t want to accept.
