Gerald Massey (1828-1907) was an English writer and self-taught Egyptologist. While having no formal training, he was drawn to ancient Egypt and possible parallels with Christianity. Massey was highly influential on Tom Harpur. However, Massey is not well-respected in scholarly circles. For example, he developed theories of mythical origins for both Pilate and Herod, despite the wealth of historical evidence.
